Iowa Licensing Qualifications
- An applicant for real estate salesperson license must be a person whose application for licensure has not been rejected in this or any other state or jurisdiction within 12 months prior to the date of application, and whose real estate license has not been revoked in this or any other state within two years prior to date of application.
- An applicant for a real estate salesperson license who has had a professional license of any kind revoked in this or any other jurisdiction may be denied a license by the commission on the grounds of the revocation.
- An applicant for real estate salesperson license who has been convicted of forgery, embezzlement, obtaining money under false pretenses, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud, or another similar offense, or of any crime involving moral turpitude, in a court of competent jurisdiction in this state or in any other state, jurisdiction, territory, or district of the United States, or in any foreign jurisdiction, may be denied a license by the commission on the grounds of the conviction.
- Must be 18 years of age - no residency or citizenship requirement.
- Complete the 60-hr pre-license course from an approved provider.
- In addition to the 60-hr pre-licensing salesperson course, all persons applying for a salesperson license beginning January 1, 2009, must show evidence that the following three courses have been completed:
- 12-hr Buying Practices
- 12-hr Listing Practices
- 12-hr Developing Professionalism and Ethical Practices
- Successfully pass the state and national portions of the examination, passing notice good for 6 months.
- Obtain errors and omissions insurance (provided by Mel Foster Co.)
- Must be sponsored by broker after they pass the exam; cannot apply for an inactive license.
- License issued and mailed to sponsoring broker within 7-10 days
Illinois Licensing Qualifications
To be eligible for the Illinois Real Estate Salesperson Examination, candidates must meet all of the requirements in one of the following categories:
45-hour Class Qualification
To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Salesperson license under Category A, applicants must:
- Be at least 21 years old; and
- Have graduated from high school or obtained equivalent of a high school degree; and
- Have successfully completed the 45-class-hour Real Estate Transactions course at a real estate school approved by the Office of Banks and Real Estate; and
- Successfully pas the state examination; and
- Must be sponsored by broker after they pass the exam; cannot apply for an inactive license.
Note: Persons qualifying under Category A MUST bring an original Uniform Real Estate Transcript, bearing an embossed seal, to the test center on the day of the examination. Your transcript will NOT be accepted if altered by any method. THE UNIFORM REAL ESTATE TRANSCRIPT IS VALID FOR THREE YEARS FOLLOWING THE COMPLETION OF THE COURSE.
18-21 Year Old Qualification
Prior approval must be given by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation in order to qualify under Category E. To qualify for an Illinois Real Estate Salesperson license under Category E, applicants must:
- The minimum age of 21 years shall be waived for any person seeking a license as a real estate salesperson who has attained the age of 18; and
- Have graduated from high school or obtained the equivalent of a high school degree (GED); and
- Have successfully completed at least 4 semesters of post-secondary school study as a full-time student or the equivalent, with major emphasis on real estate courses, at a school approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Documentation Required: An original transcript showing at least four semesters of post-secondary school study as a full-time student or the equivalent, with major emphasis on real estate courses, at a school approved by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
